Its summer time here and getting hotter by the minute. Today it hit a record breaking 100 degrees. Wow it’s going to be a very hot summer this year. This means that your vehicle will have to work even harder to cool its engine.

There are a few things that you can do to ensure that you vehicle is ready for this hot weather. First and most important is to have your radiator flushed and a complete antifreeze replacement. Your antifreeze is very important. This is what pulls heat from your engine.

Change your belt or belts. They have made it since last year now its time to change them. A lot of mechanics will tell you to wait until your belts start to crack and show signs of wear but I always change mine one a year. This is a great practice and will keep you from being broke down one day on the side of the road.

The oil in your vehicle is very important especially during these hot summer days. Make sure that you are keeping your oil changed and your front end grassed. Use really good oil. The cheaper off brand oils do not last and hold out as long as some of the named brands. I personally use Castrol.

Now is a great time to change your air and fuel filter. Keeping your air filter changed will help your engine to breath and in turn it will save you on fuel consumption. Changing your fuel filter will help to make your fuel pump last longer. By keeping a clean and new fuel filter on your vehicle you are not over working your fuel pump.

Summer time is very trying on your tires. Check the overall condition of your tires. Look for uneven wear. This can indicate that your front end is out of alignment. Have the frontend aligned and tires replaced, if need be. While looking at the tires look for any bubbles. If there is a bubble on one of your tires, it must be replaced immediately.

I want to touch base on a new trend in the junk car industry. This is national junk car buyers. These are companies that are located in another state and purchasing junk or wrecked vehicles in all states. This is done by contracting local towing companies to purchase the leads that these companies generate. These leads can be sold to your local towing company anywhere from $25-250.00 a lead.

There are several problems with this model. The biggest problem is that these national junk car buyers don’t care who they sell the leads to, they may even sell them to several companies. We get calls from these companies all the time after talking to several of them I have discovered that they do not want a copy of my licenses or anything. All they are after is a credit card so they can get paid for the leads.

Ultimately they could be contracting to a criminal. These companies just don’t car. All they are after is the money per lead. This could be a very dangerous situation. It is not right to put consumers in this situation over greed.

These national junk car buyers are not licensed in the states to purchase and recycle junk cars. For example in order to have a license in Texas you must be located in Texas and have a principle office here. How are these companies going to notify the state that the junk car or truck is no longer in your possession? This is how you are released from liability. This protects you from assuming liability once your vehicle is sold. These national companies sell these leads to anybody that wants the leads. Some of these people that purchase these leads are not licensed and fix the vehicles up. They resell the vehicle without the title getting transferred. What happens when one of these vehicles runs a red light, tool booth or gets into an accident? You got it, you are held responsible because the vehicle is still in your name.

Another down fall to these companies is that by them selling these leads they are taking money from you. Junk car buyers pay for these leads this means that they have to pay you less for your vehicle. So you are losing the cost of the leads from your selling price. For example:

You are asking $500.00

The lead cost the junk buyer $150.00

This means that your offer would be $350.00

I am going to tell you ways to recognize if a company is national or local. The first and best way is to look at their website. If it states that they purchase vehicles in several states. Then they are a national company. Another great way is to look at their phone number. If a junk car buyer has a toll free number then more than likely they are a national junk car buyer. A local company does not need a toll free number because it would not be long distance for you to call them.

This means thеу wіƖƖ give уου thе smallest amount possible and not turn your title into the state. A web presents is so important in this age of internet. Plus you will get a better fill of how the company is operated.
3. Watch out fοr scams аnԁ tricks thаt fly by night, unlicensed, junk buyers wіƖƖ attempt to pull.  One οf thе tricks, іѕ thаt thеу wіƖƖ agree on a price over the phone,  thе ѕtοrу wіƖƖ change once thеу arrive at your vehicle. Before purchasing your old junk car or truck, thеу wіƖƖ tеƖƖ уου thе car іѕ missing the catalytic converter. This junk car buyer will then go down on the quote. This will be far less then what you agreed on. The catalytic converter іѕ located underneath your vehicle before your muffler, the junk car buyer knows mοѕt people don’t even know what a catalytic converter іѕ. Even іf уου ԁo know what it іѕ, chances are уου wont ɡеt underneath the old nasty car to look for yourself. Most people would rather save the hassle, ѕο thеу јυѕt agree to take the lower price. Watch out for this trick!

4. A lot of junk car companies wіƖƖ quote a price fοr thе car, when thеу ѕhοw up, thеу then will deduct the price of towing from the final cost. If thеу were going tο deduct the towing from the price, then thеу ѕhουƖԁ hаνе tοƖԁ уου thаt over thе phone. Tell them no. Call us we will give you 100% of our agreed price.

I wanted to make a quick post about the most recent scam going around in the junk car industry. As I learn about these things I try to post them.

Recently I have been getting a lot of reports of two things the first, is people are calling other  salvage car buying companies and getting very high quotes for their vehicle only to find out that the quote is not true.

Here is how the scam works:

You call the company to get a quote; the company could be located anywhere. They then send you an envelope and request you to send them the title to your vehicle. After they receive the title they have a towing company pick up your junk or old vehicle. They then do a condition report on your vehicle and go down on the price that they quoted you.  If you don’t like their new quote then they expect you to have your vehicle towed back along with paying the original tow bill from the first tow.

I can’t believe that this has been going on without any criminal charges being brought against these companies.  This is wrong to do and it is having a horrible impact on the junk industry.  We at Houston Junk Car Buyer will never participate nor be any part of this practice. In our opinion this is fraud!

Another scam is the “Vacation Voucher.” What happens is you will call a company and they will give you a low quote on your junk car or truck. Then they will tell you that it includes a free vacation for up to four people.

When the company comes out to pick up your vehicle they do not have the vacation vouchers with them. They tell you that they will mail vouchers to you. Of course you never receive the vouchers in the mail.

This is fraud anyway you put it. This practice is wrong and will ultimately give all junk buyers a bad reputation.
