Its summer time here and getting hotter by the minute. Today it hit a record breaking 100 degrees. Wow it’s going to be a very hot summer this year. This means that your vehicle will have to work even harder to cool its engine.

There are a few things that you can do to ensure that you vehicle is ready for this hot weather. First and most important is to have your radiator flushed and a complete antifreeze replacement. Your antifreeze is very important. This is what pulls heat from your engine.

Change your belt or belts. They have made it since last year now its time to change them. A lot of mechanics will tell you to wait until your belts start to crack and show signs of wear but I always change mine one a year. This is a great practice and will keep you from being broke down one day on the side of the road.

The oil in your vehicle is very important especially during these hot summer days. Make sure that you are keeping your oil changed and your front end grassed. Use really good oil. The cheaper off brand oils do not last and hold out as long as some of the named brands. I personally use Castrol.

Now is a great time to change your air and fuel filter. Keeping your air filter changed will help your engine to breath and in turn it will save you on fuel consumption. Changing your fuel filter will help to make your fuel pump last longer. By keeping a clean and new fuel filter on your vehicle you are not over working your fuel pump.

Summer time is very trying on your tires. Check the overall condition of your tires. Look for uneven wear. This can indicate that your front end is out of alignment. Have the frontend aligned and tires replaced, if need be. While looking at the tires look for any bubbles. If there is a bubble on one of your tires, it must be replaced immediately.

Now would be a great time to have your auto ac checked to make sure it is running at its best. During these hot summer days it helps to have a great working ac.

These about sums it up for your summer PM maintance.

Sum shops just send it out to be disposed of, make sure this is not the case.

Also make sure that you insist that the shop use recycled oil in your vehicle. This will drop our dependence on new crude thus less oil in the long run that we have to pump out of the earth.
11 people that were working on the platform are still missing and assumed dead. My condolences go out to the families of these missing workers. My family is praying for your family.

Summer time can be real hard on your vehicle down here in South Texas. We have temperatures over 100 degrees sometimes. These days are really bad on your vehicle!!. But you as a vehicle owner can help prevent any damage to your vehicle.

Summer time maintenance should include a motor flush and an antifreeze change. You can buy a kit to do this at your local auto parts shop. Remember that antifreeze is very bad on the environment and is deadly if consumed by and kids or animals!! Make sure to properly dispose of your used antifreeze properly. Most auto parts stores will gladly dispose of your used antifreeze usually free of charge.

It’s time to get your vehicle ready for summer time. We wrote a little article on getting your vehicle ready for winter so we figured that we would write on for summer also.

Also it is time for an oil change and engine flush. Once again you can buy all of the things you need at your local auto parts dealer. However I would recommend that you take your vehicle into your local oil change shop. This can get messy and the shop is equipped to deal with oily messes.

At this time you need to also change you air-filter. A clogged up air-filter can dramatically decrease your gas mileage. So make sure to change it with every oil change.

I would also recommend you to rotate your tires and check them for un-normal wear. Take your vehicle to your local front end alignment shop and have the alignment checked. Remember to check your tire pressure. Low tire pressure can also lower your fuel millage.

In closing this article I would like to say that if you have any questions please feel free to call us. We are here to help you.

When you think of freezing weather in our area the first thing we think about is getting our pets in and warping our water pipes. Very few people think about their vehicle. Yes your vehicle needs to be prepared for cold or freezing weather also!! I will go through the steps that every vehicle owner needs to go through to make sure their vehicle will make it.

First and most important is your radiator. Your vehicle’s radiator it the cooling system for your vehicles motor. The liquid you put in your radiator protects your radiator from freezing. This liquid is called antifreeze. Antifreeze prevents your radiator from freezing in cold weather. Antifreeze does go bad over time. You can purchase a tester at your local auto parts store. This tester will tell you if you antifreeze is still good. If it isn’t you can drain out your antifreeze by the drain plug on your radiator. Then just add new antifreeze.

Make sure that you don’t spill antifreeze on the ground, this can kill dogs, cats and even kids if they get into it. Dogs and cats drink the antifreeze because it taste and smells sweet to them. Kids also think it taste sweet so be VERY CAREFUL IF YOU SPILL ANTIFREEZE. You can take your used antifreeze to your local auto parts store and they will recycle it for free, especially if you purchase your antifreeze from them.

Let’s look at your motor oil for a second. Your motor oil is the life blood of your motor. If you are behind on your oil change now would be a great time to get it changed, in fact have them check your radiator fluid also!! When it is cold your oil thickens if your oil is old and is breaking down then you can destroy your motor, especially in this cold weather.

Here is the best way to explain it. Pancake syrup gets real think the colder it gets, if you heat it up it thins out. Same exact thing for your motor oil. This brings up a good point, When it is cold allow your motor to warn up for about ten minutes before you drive your vehicle. This will allow your engine to warm up to operating temperature along with your antifreeze and oil.

Let’s talk about that frozen windshield for a second. A great rule of thumb is to start your vehicle turn your defrost on and let the defrost do its job. Once your defrost has melted the ice on your windshield you know that your motor has warmed up. But make sure you give your vehicle at lest ten minutes to warn up. This is a must for your vehicle!!

I know this was a lengthy post but I hope that you found it very helpful. Please comment if you found this helpful. Also remember we will purchase your wrecked or junk vehicle from you. Call us at 713-592-2576

(ARA) – As the weather heats up, trucks and their owners take advantage of the sun and head outdoors to work and play.

A little elbow grease, motivation and some innovation can make all the difference between making your truck look new again and driving an old beater.

Whether your truck has been plowing through muck and mud, hauling tools, helping a friend move or transporting hay, there’s no doubt it could use a serious visual overhaul.

A few simple steps now can keep your truck sparkling and working hard for years to come.

Inside

Remove the floor mats and shake out the dirt, rocks and debris. Use a heavy duty vacuum cleaner to tidy up the mats and the inside of the truck.

Wipe down the instrument panel and console with a gentle, all-purpose cleanser and get at stubborn dirt in nooks and crannies with a cotton swab. An occasional spray with a dashboard protectant product helps prevent fading, warping and cracking.

Outside

Use a hose with a sprayer attachment to wet the top to bottom. Make sure the water pressure is not too hard to damage the vehicle. Wash the truck with gentle soap and tepid water to get rid of muck.

Make your final focus the and bumper. Don’t forget to hose off and clean the undercarriage and wheels wells as those areas take the brunt of the road’s abuse.

Rinse the truck and dry with a chamois or natural fiber cloth. Never let the truck air dry as water spots will develop and can be difficult to buff out.

Clean the windows and mirrors, both inside and out, taking care to eliminate streaks that can impair vision while driving.

Check the tires. Your truck takes you through rough terrain so check for any slow leaks or punctures and inflate the to proper pressure levels.
